Toast’d for life!

I just love small cafes. The convenience of ordering something simple, and getting to savour every bite of it instead of elaborate courses of meals is a rarity (not that anything’s wrong with the latter).

Quite a few cafes have opened up in Islamabad over the last couple of years. Tiny rooms with a bookshelf in one corner, one or two tables, an open kitchen and an aura of tranquility. Toast’d Cafe, however, stands out with its contemporary theme, unexpected location and a creatively thought out menu.

This entry has been 2 months in the making and is based on several visits, each of which has surpassed the last.

Pull apart garlic bread, PKR 125

A cross between garlic bread and pizza, this pull apart bread had crisp edges with a soft buttery center. When pulled apart, it formed strings of mozzarella cheese which melted in my mouth. Definitely one of the best garlic breads I have had.

Red Velvet Cupcake, PKR 85

Over the past year, red velvet has become a featured flavor in every bakery and cakery. This cupcake is a little effort away from perfection. The luscious cream cheese topping could not have been better but the sponge could have been lighter, fluffier.

Strawberry Lemonade, PKR 175

Imagine going through a bushel of fresh strawberries, one by one, biting into those delicious treats while sipping homemade lemonade on a hot summer day, concocted from fresh lemons; definitely not the store bought kind. Blend the two and you’ll get this beverage which hits just the right spots!

Strawberry Chocolate Dome

What could taste better than whipped cream and a cup of fresh strawberries? I know, strawberries in whipped cream, served in a bowl made of chocolate. Absolute perfection! However, when this concoction is topped off with chocolate covered strawberries, that I’d say is decadently delicious!

Don’t take my word for it, don’t make do with the pictures. If you’re in the neighbourhood, you must try this out for yourself. As for me, I am curious to see what the new season will bring and look forward to many more visits.
