Kolachi - Making Karachi Proud I'm going to be honest. I'm not a fan of going out and eating desi food. I get enough desi food at home. Kolachi however, surpasses all other places offering desi food wherever I've gone. Dare I say *gasp* even BBQ Tonight? Yup, I dared. We ordered chili prawns, ribs, Hunzai kababs, masala fries, Peshawari karahi and zafrani kulfi. This was enough for the 7 of us. Starting with the chili prawns, they did smell of prawns, but it was mild, and wasn't really bothersome. The spices however, were anything but mild. Spicy, garlicky, hothothot! I've discovered something new to love at Kolachi. The fries were as fries should be. The fact that they were super hot and not refried in disgusting oil was a refreshing change from the Chundrigar's Begum Gali. The ribs, soft and succulent on the inside, crispy and crunchy on the outside. There was a chatpatta sa masala with it that served as the perfect contrast to that deliciously flavoured smoky meat. The Peshawari karahi wasn't too dry and the chicken was perfectly tender. There were only 2 botis left when we were done with it. The Hunzai kabab, Matlab mai kya bolun? What do I say about it that hasn't already been said? And I don't even like kababs and the like all that much. Definitely prefer to marinate and barbecue my own at home. Not when it comes to Kolachi though. My Khalu was very insistent everyone try the kulfi and apparently it was so good, everyone had some and loved it. Me, I don't like it very much. Shukriya but not shukriya. Now, I feel that our server Zafar deserves a very special shout out. He was on the periphery the entire time we were there, making sure we got garam garam rotis, that everyone was comfortable and overall just being fantastic. I'm sure that all the boys have been trained well, but if you ever get Zafar, make sure you give him a nice fat tip because that guy made what could have been a good experience a fantastic one. Kolachi, so proud to have a place with such brilliant food and service.
