When you have the sweetest friends who make some of the best desserts in town, how can you not expect a sweet surprise? Yasha of The Poached Pear sent over this absolutely delicious lemon meringue pie yesterday evening which as you can tell, I didn't really wait to let cool and ate immediately. It was still so good! The packaging has been upgraded, and the Australian lemons were a tad bit more sweeter than the South African ones but still so, so delicious. Had Yasha not told me, I wouldn't have been able to tell. I'm going to love spending the rest of the week polishing this off. *Bliss*

So it's not a surprise that I love The Poached Pear. I love everything Yasha has ever created, from the lemon meringue to the pavlova to the chocolate tart. And who am I to say no to a new dessert my fellow food lover wants to send over? When Yasha told me he has created an alternative to his original Lindt chocolate tart with Belgian chocolate who did a happy dance? I did a happy dance! Since I had half a tart to share, I wasn't stingy and shared it with my family. Now keep in mind my father takes 3 teaspoons of sugar in his tea. So he basically drinks sugar with tea, not tea with sugar. Let me tell you he liked the dessert so much, he asked for the price so he could share the joy with friends and family. Needless to say, everyone else in the family loved it as well. It wasn't just one element of the Belgian Chocolate Tart that was exceptionally good. The tart crust was flaky, buttery, crisp, but not so hard that it was difficult to fork through. The salted caramel was just the right mixture of salty and caramelly sweet goodness. And the Belgian chocolate layer on top was literally the icing on the cake. It was dark, rich, chocolate ganachey decadence and just the kind of dessert one would expect from Yasha. The whole tart can probably feed 10-15 people easy and available at an introductory price of Rs. 3500 it may seem a little steep for some, but looking at the quality of the ingredients used, it's definitely a show stealer! I can't wait to see what The Poached Pear comes up with for its birthday!

I was having a miserable day at work. What should have been a relaxed Saturday was a Mondayish nightmare. In the midst of all the madness, I got a call from Yasha Siddqi, asking if I would care to try the Variety Pie. And how could I say no to that? When I asked about the cost, he made it clear that it was a treat from him and was insistent I only try it to give feedback on his products. Which of course, I couldn't say no to. He did forewarn me that the lemon-lime meringue might sweat as he was using limes from a local super store, but that didn't faze me and by the time I got home, my family had their dessert spoons ready.. In the Variety Pie, priced for order including delivery at Rs. 3299 are the following: 1/4 Mixed Fruit Pavlova 1/4 Lemon-Lime Meringue Pie 1/4 Banofee Pavlova 1/4 Lindt Dark Chocolate and Salted Caramel Tart Please note that The Poached Pear strives to bring something new to their variety pies on a monthly basis, and I was lucky enough to get the last for the month of February. Now, I have waxed eloquent about the fruit pavlovas before, and have a blog post on it which you can read up on. The chocolate tart however was stunning, and what stood out most for me, with my love for salted caramel and dark chocolate. It was nice, it was definitely dark, and the salted caramel set off and enhanced the dark chocolate even further. That tart crust was crispy, without being too hard to cut into with a spoon, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. If you don't like dark chocolate, don't try this. It's not for you. The Banofee Pavlova is a must try for those who love bananas and pavlovas. The generous smattering of chocolate chips went perfectly with the bananas, the delicate pavlova, the caramel and of course, the meringue. Just a perfect blend of perfect ingredients in one place. Yasha had been correct about the limes making the meringue sweat, but he assured me this doesn't happen with the entire pie. Despite the softened meringue,, the entire portion of the lemon-lime meringue pie was the first to go. All in all, is this Variety Pie worth the money? Yes! Will you find anything else like it in the market? Pppffftttt, I think not. If you want to treat your family, yourself, patao a girl or a guy with a sweet tooth, or just show someone you love them, this is the best way to do it! Yasha and The Poached Pear, live long and prosper!
